Video in Education
As a teacher you can get out the television and video to
a buzz of excitement from the class.
This can be for a multitude of reasons.
·
They are going to spared the voice of the
teacher for a while.
·
They are going to be able to relax, because
most children find the television relaxing.
·
It is a relatively rare happening in the
classroom so the arrival of the TV heralds a rise in interest and engagement.
That final point is the one we need to pounce on. Sadly it is quickly negated by the previous
point, having raised concentration, engagement and interest by getting out
the video we then watch those essentials of the classroom fall as the
educational video trundles through.
Interactive
video stimulates the child just as that initial burst of enthusiasm is on the
wane.
Watching
TV is a passive occupation. If, every
few minutes, the watcher had to express an opinion or prove knowledge, it
would become an active occupation.
This is just what interactive video achieves.
